Originally written in late 1997,
this essay, of sorts, was a tribute to
the Nikita of season one, and was, originally,
all that there was of the site
that you see today.

Nikita is a strong, compassionate, beautiful, brave, streetwise woman who, falsely accused of brutally murdering a police officer, was sentenced to life in prison. |
Enter Section One, the most covert antiterrorist group on the planet. The Section abducted Nikita from her cell and offered her a fateful and terrible choice; live and experience the agony of feeling her soul perish, or die without ever having lived. She chose what she had to do to survive, and she is living to regret it.
For Nikita, freedom, innocence and the fulfillment of love, are life. These are the things that she struggles to preserve and to one day, gain.
For Section One, freedom, innocence (when it does not threaten the Section) and worldwide control are the objectives to maintain and perpetuate.
|
Constantly at odds, torn between doing the right thing and realizing the big picture, Nikita has to live the life that Section has given her. And somehow she has to save not only every innocent that gets into the eradicating path of Section One, not only her own soul, but that of her mentor, her partner, her sometimes-friend and the person who makes her every waking moment a pleasure and pain. |

Whose every blank stare and controlled deep breath stab at her heart. Whose every brief kiss, touch and caring deception serve to propel her to the heights of bliss and plummet her to the darkest pools of despair, where only her fatal failures are present to keep her company. Michael... |
He would give her his life. He gave Nikita her freedom. However, he can't give her his heart, as black and cold as he believes it to be, he reasons it would only poison her innocence and purity. He can't give her his love, for it would only kill her in the end. So he protects her, an archangel without a personally acknowledged soul.
|
Nikita knows that his heart is not dead. She knows that his soul still burns brightly beneath its layers of night-shaded concealment. She knows that he could love again, that he is human. |
|
Unfortunately, with Section's aid, Michael continually attempts to disprove that knowledge. It usually works, the deceptions, the manipulations, they wound and rebuff her. Yet, Nikita heals, she learns (at least caution) and, though some would argue that her actions are foolish, she tries again.
Nikita and Michael two beings existing on the surface as polar opposites, and within their mortal frames and vibrant souls as star-crossed lovers, destined to be together.
The question remains, though: Will they ever both embrace and relish that truth, or will they allow the Section to come between them and their destiny? Will Michael and Nikita ever be truly free of Section One?
These are just a few of the reasons that people tune into this television show every week.
